****SPOILER WARNING****
If you have never seen the movie, go do so before reading this, because then you'll just be pissed at me.
For everyone else...
We all know what happens in Pitch Black. A handful of people arrive on a deserted planet in the Hunter Gratzner, and they keep dying off one by one until there's only four left. Those four would be Richard B. Riddick, Carolyn Fry, Jack(ie), and Abu "Imam" al-Walid. Then, just before the happy ending, Fry gets impaled by one of the creatures and drug off to be eaten, and Riddick shouts "Not for me" because she said she would die for the others, but vowed never to die for him.
So, anyway. After that, Riddick waits for the very last possible moment to ignite the engines just to toast as many of the creatures as possible before taking off. But, here is where the RP comes in.
Instead of taking off and leaving the atmosphere, the cells that they had brought to the skiff died to the point where they couldn't breech the atmosphere. Instead of making a clean getaway, then end up nosediving (gracefully, thanks to Riddick's awesome piloting skills) back down to the planet, and only have enough juice in the cells to create a distress beacon and keep enough light on to keep the creatures at bay.
Just per chance, their distress beacon was answered within a day, and because it was a government vessel, Riddick was chained again. But, the creatures posed such an interest to the scientists on board, that they petitioned to have a base forged on the planet, and also petitioned for Riddick's freedom to head the military team in charge of keeping the creatures away from the base, and capturing specimens for study, simply because of his knowledge of them from battling them, and from his supurb night vision.
The deal is struck, the base is built, and now, the inhabitants have to deal with this desert planet on a daily basis. The base is a biosphere with three foot thick bullet proof glass, the base of it is six foot thick titanium alloy, and the base is approximately two miles long in diameter. Flood lights line the periphery of the base to keep the creatures at a safe distance at all times, and each person, upon arriving at the base, is given a personal flood light to carry with them, for when the darkness falls again.
The rest is up to you.
